Of special note, Kindle’s launch success (right now it is sold out) is unparalleled by no other eReader. Amazon currently advises customers to pre-order for the next (much larger) batch. The wait time for these devices is not known at this time, but it is not expected to be too long given Amazon’s general on-demand buying capability, which makes waiting long for any item show a stark contrast with current online buying technology.
Most eReaders retail for less than $399, and most eBooks, newspapers, and magazines can be bought as single pieces or subscriptions for around $9.99. One of the key features of new eReaders is that they let customers wirelessly connect to Amazon and similar stores to buy eTitles on demand. With this kind of browsing and buying ease, it won’t be long before anyone who currently has one of these devices to have their own portable library.
Modern eReaders do for reading what digital music players did for music. Like MP3 players, it’s not about which album you’re going to bring with you, but which one you’re going to pick when you decide to listen, or read. With a prose library at hand, you can listen and read whatever you want, wherever you are. That makes vacations a lot nicer, too. When you order an eReader, you may want to order two. Maybe more?
